Executive Regional Minister attends a prayer vigil in Mississippi

On March 23, our Executive Regional Minister, Rev. Dr. Nadine Burton, traveled to Mississippi to attend a prayer vigil hosted by Working Together Mississippi, a community organization focused on Education, Healthcare, and Immigration. The event took place on the second floor of the Rotunda of the Capitol at noon. Faith leaders affiliated with Working Together Mississippi joined Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann and members of the Senate to issue an urgent moral call for legislative action on three critical issues:

  • Extension of Medicaid coverage to new mothers from two months to one year
  • Distribution of funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to upgrade local water and sewer infrastructure
  • Tax reform that protects the state budget and benefits low-income families
