Why the Dwight Bailey Institute?

Picture of a young Dwight

Rev. Dwight Bailey was a minister with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) whose life had a profound impact on every person he met.  He joined the Great River Region’s Regional Commission on Ministry (RCOM), where he began to mentor candidates for Commission and Ordained Ministry. The impact of his trailblazing ministry will be known and experienced as grace, personal relationships, mentorship, dignity, and integrity. While at a visioning session at the Christian Church of Deliverance in Port Gibson, MS, Rev. Bailey suffered a fall. He was paralyzed and eventually succumbed to his injuries.  Rev. and Mrs. Felton raised funds on behalf of Rev. Bailey. These funds are being used to launch the Bailey Institute. Our prayer is that this Institute of Learning will empower GRR Disciples through learning opportunities as we move forward with the Regional vision to reach, teach, and transform lives through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Academics

The structure of the Institute will be to hold three semesters each year; Fall, Spring, and Summer. Each semester will have four series.  As of now, our four series are; Lay Leadership, Spiritual Formation, Technology, and Special Interests. Each series will each have four classes per semester which will meet once per week for four weeks.

You may sign up for as little as one semester taking one series or as many series as you can fit into your schedule.  Each series will consist of 12 classes across all three semesters. Evening classes will be from 7:00-9:00 and may finish earlier on any given evening. Special Interest classes will usually be stand alone, one day offerings on Saturdays from 10:00 am-2:00 pm.
